The beginner bike

The beginner bike is very, very important. If you start with a motorcycle that you cannot master, this will make you afraid and slow you down or even prevent your training. It also increases your risk of accidents.

Let’s talk about which bike to start with. Firstly, let’s accept that regardless of the type (although there are easier-to-ride types), the right engine to start with is 125 cc. or 250 cc.

Many people at this moment say: Ok, but they are too small. And they are right. However, the essential is to start with a weight to handle easily, and you are ready to command. And don’t forget, these little machines will carry your life!

That’s why it’s better to start with as light as possible and it means with a 125 or 250 engine, to tilt the bike, straighten it with the gas, and make escape maneuvers, in short, to control the bike more easily.

Steering a one-hundred-pound engine and a three-hundred-pound engine are not the same thing. To command a 150-pound bike and to master a 350-pound bike is not the same thing.

Types of motorcycles / Which bike should I start with?

As straight as you sit up, your look stays up. And you should keep your look up to see further. Below you see how you sit on different motorcycle types. And how your look depends on your motorbike.

Scooter

It is particularly suitable for short distances and/or urban use due to its driving comfort and low fuel consumption.

They generally have low-volume engines (such as 50 cc.). Some scooters reach volumes of 400 cc. or even 650 cc.

It is not a very good option for a beginner. If you have a geared and large cc motorcycle target in the future, starting with this type will force you. The driving dynamics and style of the scooter and motorcycle are different.

Note: In English, the verb to scout means to go out in a hurry, to scoot. Scooter means one who does this. So in fact, a scooter means something like “run-away”. It means quick, agile, going fast, and getting away. It’s ideal for urban use, for everyday life, for going here and there, there and there.

Naked bikes

The class in which the engine (power unit) is not covered. You can see the engine of the motorcycle when you look at it. It has a little bit of the characteristics of each class. And bad points of each model (it is not as powerful as racing, not as comfortable as touring, not as balanced as enduro, etc.). On the other hand, vehicles in this class also offer you the good points of all classes.

It is good to feel the road, the curve, the wind. Beginners feel the speed more with the effect of the wind. So the increase in wind scares and holds the beginner, it is a good thing for a beginner 🙂

It makes driving clearer, more direct, and more emotionally intense. In this respect, it is also good for beginners.

Terrain / Enduro / Adventure Bikes

As the name suggests, they are tools suitable for use in off-road conditions. Like mountain roads or mud.

It is a recommended beginner bike. It is easy to master and robust. Due to its design, it is much less damaged when fallen.

Enduro motorcycle is also good for your look. As a beginner, you have to keep up your look. Enduro bikes also ease this process. Higher you sit higher you have the up look.

Touring

They are relatively heavy machines that prioritize comfort. Therefore it’s not a good beginner bike.

But they are heavy!

They are not recommended for beginners because they are bulky and heavy in the city. It is a bit more difficult to feel the road, the curve, the clarity and direct feeling of the road are reduced in the name of comfort.

They are motorcycle models built for turning the ignition and traveling long distances. The touring bikes have high average speeds and are good cornering machines. They can easily carry two people and are suitable for luggage.

Cruiser / Chopper

Vanity is good, but these bikes don’t go, turn or stop. That is why a cruiser is not recommended as a beginner bike. They are heavy and do not rev high. Therefore if they are a beginner bike, you will have difficulties to learning the most important skill: throttle control. It is the wrong type of beginner bike for those who want to learn with technique.

It is your choice. And it is recommended that you first choose a model where you can learn the technique more easily. Then switch to your desired model.

Racing

They are road-adapted versions of track cars. It is the engine type with the highest performance. It absolutely and definitely requires advanced knowledge and experience.

Don’t start with this class even if the cc is low. You will struggle just to lift your look up. You will have difficulty because your sitting position is reclined and low.

And THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO CAUSE THE WORST PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY WITH YOUR SMALLEST ERROR.

AND THEY HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO IMMEDIATELY TURN THINGS TO THE MOST HEAVY PROBLEM.

Besides, the highest number of fatal accidents occur on such machines.

In other words, it is the least forgiving type of motorcycle.

Beginner bike
according to Engine Volume and Power

0 – 125 cc. >

It is the appropriate volume to start with. You can just get bored quickly. For this reason, 200 – 250 cc. bikes are a better choice.

251 – 500 / 600 cc. >

It’s the class where things start to get serious. The power (horsepower and torque) and weight begin to exceed levels that a beginner can easily manage in this class.

601 – 800 / 900 cc. >

This class requires experience and ability. In this class, mistakes are fatal.

126 – 250 cc. >

It is the best class for beginners. 125 cc. class bikes are generally cheap, and lack much equipment. That’s why 250 cc. bikes offer more decadent options in terms of equipment.

Besides, they have enough power to fulfill your demands for long trips, for the weekend.

900 cc. & above

They are out of class for the beginner. No way to manage the risks with such powerful motorbike…

By Horsepower

This is a very controversial subject, but:

Around 70 horsepower can be accepted as the fatal danger limit. Below 70 hp is good for a start, above 70 hp is simply wrong and dangerous.
70, 60, 50 horsepower is, of course, dangerous enough for the a beginner bike. If you are clever enough to minimize the risks; you avoid high power.

So if you are going to stubbornly start with a large volume (cc), at least stay under 60 – 70 horsepower…

Conclusion / Summary

Naked or Off-Road (Enduro) and BELOW 250 cc. motorcycles are recommended. I have detailed the logic for this on the page. But to put it briefly: they are lightweight. Your brain, arms and legs, and most importantly, the muscle power you use in daily life is enough to manage such a light mass. These specs are best for a beginner bike.
Then you can switch to the style, volume, and engine size you want riding. But with a small motorcycle, you learn the basics much more easily. And you can master the compulsory techniques much more easily.

It is necessary to start with a small cc (250) and a light motorcycle. As a genre, it is a naked or enduro motorcycle. This is because you sit straight and high. With these two types, you will be sitting upright, standing high, keeping your gaze up. In this case, you will learn the basic techniques and what you need to do and learn much more easily.

It should not be a racing model. The best style is naked or enduro is recommended, 250 cc. is recommended.

Your first motorcycle should be 250 cc.

Naked-bike or off-road type is recommended as it makes it easier to learn systematic riding.
